Once you’ve done your research and chosen the cannabis packaging company to work with, there’re several key things you should know in terms of packaging cannabis concentrate products. From materials to packaging style, here’re some guiding questions to ask when working with your supplier on cannabis packaging projects — especially for cannabis concentrate products.
Does your supplier understand the product’s material?
In the early stages, it’s important to tell your supplier what material is going into the container. The supplier should be familiar with that material to provide the right solution for your product. For THC concentrate, the material used for packaging can be a little tricky, especially if you’re working with an international supplier as it may not be legalized worldwide. For example, cannabis products aren’t legalized in China, so a Chinese supplier may find it difficult to understand the composite or material for a cannabis product container.
If your supplier lacks familiarity with THC and its associated products, they may struggle to determine the best material for packaging. This could complicate the process or, worse, the unsuitable material might interact with your THC product, leading to potential contamination.
What materials are safe to use for THC concentrates?
THC products come in a variety of forms, such as liquid (THC oils), THC wax, diamonds, crystals, etc. Therefore, it’s crucial for you and your supplier to understand the character of the THC concentrate being put into the container. What material for the container is safe for that specific form of THC concentrate? Currently, three types of materials are safe for packaging marijuana products.
Glass
Regular glass, Crystal glass, Quartz glass. These types of glass containers are also generally safe for THC concentrates. Of the three, quartz glass is the most expensive type of glass due to its high tolerance of heat, i.e., it has a very high melting point.
Plastic
PTFE, HDPE, PCTG. These types of plastics are known to be safe for packaging THC products and wouldn’t interact with the THC content.
Metal
Stainless steel #316L, Aluminium with grading #6061. If you prefer a metal-based container, make sure it’s surgical grade stainless steel or aerospace-grade aluminium.

Choosing a supplier who offers a variety of materials is crucial. This ensures you can select the option that best suits your THC product without needing to find the material elsewhere.
